SEVILLE, Spain – As La Liga looks to restart its season, eight teams will be wearing jerseys with hidden or removed logos of their betting sponsors for a few games.
The soccer teams that have gambling companies as their main sponsors are Alaves, Granada, Leganes, Levante, Osasuna, Real Mallorca, Sevilla, and Valencia. There are other teams also have betting logos but they are not main logos that are seen on the jerseys.
The Royal Decree of the State of Emergency bans the advertising of gambling throughout the day in Spain. Article 37 of this decree states that the only window for gambling and betting ads to be shown are between 1 am to 5 am.
Betway, Winamax, Betfred, Hirolbet, Marathon Bet, Bwin are the legal sports betting sponsors that will be affected by this ban.
These restrictions will be in place last until June 21 as part of the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The government approved the banning of gambling advertising in March in order to protect the most vulnerable people during lockdown,” said a source close to the Minister of Consumer Affairs. “The overexposure to this sort of advertisement threatened to generate a public health problem. As the risk decreases and always considering the maximum criteria of public health, the necessary measures to advance into the new normal will be taken,”

The ban is not only for the logos on jersey there will be no advertising for gambling companies at stadiums or TV broadcast, if not during the permitting time frame.
La Liga will also have to change their advertising boards for interviews that as also covered in betting company logos.
These regulations should only last for the first three matchdays of the restated season.
