Madison Square Garden and DraftKings Partner

  • Sports betting is legal in New York, but it is restricted to retail casino locations.
  • This partnership will allow DraftKings branding to be put in the stadium.
  • New York lawmakers are interested in creating mobile sports betting laws.

NEW YORKMadison Square Garden (MSG) and DraftKings have renewed their partnership on Thursday.

The Potential Of Mobile

DraftKings will gain a good number of perks from this partnership. For one, DraftKings is now the exclusive daily fantasy sports (DFS) and sports betting provider for MSG.

Although New York sports betting is legal, only certain casinos are allowed to open a sportsbook. Most of these locations are located near Buffalo and upstate New York.

New York lawmakers have shown interest in legalizing mobile wagering, but those efforts died back in June of 2019.

Because of this, DraftKings cannot offer sports betting options at MSG right now. But that could easily change. If lawmakers do end up legalizing mobile wagering, then DraftKings could offer a mobile sportsbook. This would allow visitors of MSG and those around the state to bet on sports.

Details Of The Deal

For now, most of the benefits DraftKings will receive is exposure branding in MSG. During New York Knicks and New York Rangers games, DraftKings branding will be present in the stadium.

Knicks games will have DraftKings branding on the apron of the court. DraftKings branding will be present on the visiting team’s bench and the penalty box for Rangers games. DraftKings branding will also be on MSG’s digital platforms.

For now, these branding deals will mostly feature promotions for DraftKings’ DFS contests.

“DraftKings has established itself as one of the most successful gaming companies in the industry and we are honored to continue our partnership with their incredible brand. We are both committed to ensuring that our customers have the best possible experience and we look forward to continuing to work closely with DraftKings on programs and promotions that benefit both of our businesses in significant and measurable ways,” said Ron Skotarczak, Vice President of MSG Company.

Until mobile sports betting is allowed in New York, DraftKings will focus on DFS advertisements at MSG. But MSG is setting itself up to be a popular venue to bet on sports if New York lawmakers are able to legalize mobile wagering.
