BOSTON – Baseball fans in the New England area will be welcomed to a new face on the iconic Green Monster this season. In a press release last week, MGM Resorts International announced that they will be the “official and exclusive resort casino of the Boston Red Sox.”

The multi-year deal will include gameday signage around Fenway Park for local fans to view, along with signage behind home plate for those watching the games on TV to see, and the MGM logo posted on the giant green left-field wall for those in the stands to marvel at.

MGM is also set to offer VIP gameday experiences at Fenway and host a Winter Weekend event at MGM Springfield, where fans will be able to meet Red Sox executives and receive photos and autographs with Red Sox players.

The sponsorship deal comes as the first of its kind between a casino resort that actively offers legal sports betting and an MLB franchise.

“This is such a natural partnership for our two brands,” said Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy. “We are thrilled to welcome them to the Red Sox family and look forward to a long collaboration.”

However, neither of the two brands have specifically mentioned whether or not this deal extends to sports betting. Several bills have been introduced in both the Massachusetts House and Senate to legalize this gaming expansion, but none of them have been signed into law quite yet.

Other Notable Deals For MGM

While this may be the first deal between an MLB team and MGM, the casino resort has been quite active in seeking out new sports partnerships.

Last November MGM resorts became the official gaming and entertainment partner of Major League Baseball as a whole.

The deal allows MGM to use official MLB trademark logos inside their sportsbooks and advertisements, as well as provide sports bettors with an official statistics feed provided by the league.

MGM Resorts has also struck similar partnerships with the NBA and the NHL. However, rival casino chain Caesars is the official partner of the NFL. MGM instead became the official gaming partner of the New York Jets last October.

As sports betting starts to spread across the US, casino chains and sportsbook operators will continue to seek out new ways to promote the activity at their locations.
