  • A new bill to legalize online sports betting in Mississippi passed through the House on a 100–11 vote, sending it to the Senate.
  • This will be the third consecutive year that the House has passed legislation for online sports betting, with the previous two attempts falling short.

JACKSON, Miss.Mobile sports betting in Mississippi seems to be making major strides towards legalization as new legislation has been advanced from the House to the Senate.

Introduced in January, the Mississippi Mobile Sports Wagering Act is now in the hands of the Senate, marking the third consecutive year that the House has passed a bill in favor of online sports betting.

The proposed bill would tax legal sports betting sites at 22% and would also reduce the state gaming tax to 6%, down from its current 8% mark.

How Much Money Would Mississippi Online Sports Betting Generate?

This would result in an approximately $48 million tax cut for Mississippi casinos, whose support is vital for the bill to survive.

Projections place the total revenue for the state at around $100 million with the 22% tax on mobile sports betting.

Representative Casey Eure, who introduced the legislation, suggests that this revenue could be used for brick-and-mortar casinos to reinvest in themselves, allowing them to give pay raises to employees and make renovations to stay competitive.

The bill would also send $50 million annually to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) for the next ten years.

Eure made it a point to mention that neighboring states Tennessee and Louisiana brought in $125 million and $102 million respectively in 2025.

While in-person and casino sports betting has already been legalized in the state, it seems as though online sports betting in Mississippi may be next in line.
