Missouri Sports Betting Timeline: 1st Sportsbooks Announced - Missouri Gaming Commission
  • Missouri’s key dates for announcing the first two sportsbooks include Wednesday and Friday of this week.

JEFFERSON CITY – Representatives from Circa Sports, DraftKings, and FanDuel will appear before the Missouri Gaming Commission on Wednesday to make their final pitches. This week marks the beginning of the state’s first two “untethered” mobile licenses being assigned, allowing them to launch without a partnership with a casino or professional sports team.

Two days later, the commission will announce which two of the three applicants will be approved.

With three months to prepare, legal sports betting in Missouri begins on December 1 after Missouri voters approved sportsbook expansion in November 2024.

In addition to the two untethered licenses awarded this week, other licenses will go to legal sports betting sites partnered with Missouri casinos or pro sports teams. Already, Underdog has applied for a mobile license in that category, while Fanatics has filed for both retail and online licenses.

Key Dates Ahead

Date Event
Aug. 13 Presentations from untethered license applicants
Aug. 15 Missouri Gaming Commission announces untethered license winners
Aug. 30 Licensing rules become effective
Sept. 12 Retail and mobile tethered license applications due
Sept. 15 Supplier license applications due for temporary approval before launch
Dec. 1 Legal sports betting launches in Missouri

The decision on Friday won’t just determine the first untethered operators in Missouri, but it will set the tone for a market that could include up to 14 sportsbooks.

For Missouri sports fans, the timing couldn’t be better. Between the NFL betting on the Chiefs’ playoff push, the St. Louis Blues’ NHL season, and college basketball ramping up, Dec. 1 promises high handles and revenue from the start.

With less than 100 days until launch, Missouri’s sports betting industry is moving along as scheduled.
