Soto - Ohtani

  • The MLB and MLBPA have agreed to a new CBA that will start on April 7.
  • The new MLB CBA will allow players to endorse sportsbooks.

NEW YORK – The MLB is officially returning after the players and the league came to an agreement on a new collective bargaining agreement. The deal was agreed to on a 26-12 vote and the 2022 season is set to begin on April 7.

With the new CBA, one of the notable benefits is that players will not be allowed to become endorsers of different legal online sportsbooks.

This is not the first time that a professional sports league will allow their players to become brand endorsers for online betting sites as the NHL has already gone down this path. Most notably though is their reigning league MVP from the Edmonton Oilers, Connor McDavid.

What To Expect From Sportsbook Endorsements

With MLB players now being able to sign endorsement deals with sportsbooks, they will likely be used in marketing campaigns and advertisements in order to gain more users on their platforms. Where people will likely see endorsements are in big sports betting cities with big-time players from teams in those cities.

Also included in the collective bargaining agreement, MLB teams will be allowed to place advertisements on their jerseys. That could include different sports betting advertisements from sports betting sites.

Although the league will allow players to sign endorsements with online sportsbooks, they still have strict restrictions against players betting on games that could leave to suspension if found guilty of doing so.

With the season now on the brink of starting, the MLB odds to win the World Series are up and the Los Angeles Dodgers are favored to win at +700 odds. The Houston Astros and New York Yankees both have +900 odds and round out the only three teams with odds under +1000.
