Governor Chris Sununu.

  • Mobile sports betting will be the first of both types of legal sports betting in the state to begin.
  • Retail wagering on sports will take much longer to roll out to the public due to the logistics of approved facilities.
  • DraftKings will now be the sportsbook company of choice by eight separate states that have legalized sports betting, making New Hampshire the eighth state to use their services.

CONCORD, N.H. – The state of New Hampshire has officially launched its legal mobile sports betting platform with DraftKings on Monday. Governor Chris Sununu will be the first to place a legal sports bet in the state as it was his signature that made the legalization of sports betting possible.

NH HB 480 was signed into law by Sununu in July. Both mobile and retail sports wagers are covered within the confines of the law. DraftKings was picked by the state’s lottery to run all sports betting operations which includes mobile sports betting. The mobile component has finally commenced months later.

The New Hampshire DraftKings Launch

All New Hampshire residents that are over the age of 21 will be allowed to download the state’s DraftKings applications and begin placing wagers on sporting events. The popular sports betting company sealed a six-year deal with the state of New Hampshire’s lottery for both their online and land-based locations.

In doing so, DraftKings will hand over 51% of all internet gross gaming revenue and 50% of retail revenue as is in their contract.

Governor Sununu will be at the launch event Monday afternoon to place the first mobile wager. The ceremony will be held at Shoppers Pub + Eatery at Indian Head in the town of Manchester. People from DraftKings, the New Hampshire Lottery, and Rob Ninkovich formerly of the New England Patriots are slated to be in attendance.

Before the launch date was set, Sununu mentioned his first bet would be on Tom Brady. While the official season has now ended, he could still wager on Brady and his postseason play.

However, one thing is certain; Rhode Island is no longer the only state with a monopoly on sports betting for New England fans. The Granite State has finally entered the game.

What The Launch Of Sports Betting Could Mean For NH

New England neighbor Rhode Island has seen an internet sports wagering revenue spike of 78% since it’s September launch.

With New Hampshire now open for sports betting, it’s safe to assume that they could see similar spikes in bettors’ interests for internet gambling. Rhode Island offers both land-based and internet sports wagering while momentarily New Hampshire will only have internet-based gambling.

This may lead to a larger amount of revenue for the state through online platforms. Estimates of the combined retail and internet revenue on sports betting stand at $11.25 million with an expected climb to $12.5 million in three years. With the help of DraftKings, New Hampshire can now begin to let the revenue start trickling in.
