NASCAR iRacing Tournament Approved For Betting In NJ And NV

LAS VEGAS – The gaming commissions in both New Jersey and Nevada have approved betting on the 2020 eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series.

Due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, NASCAR races have shut down to prevent the spread of the virus. With so little events going on, there has not been much legal sports betting happening either. However, more virtual events have been gaining national attention.

In particular, a racing simulator called iRacing has seen some popularity in recent times. An iRacing event in Bristol had over 1.17 million viewers in the United States when it happened. Such numbers would have been impossible in the past, but sports fans and bettors are starved for content.

More iRacing events are going to happen, such as the Pro Invitational Series. This event will be for just professional NASCAR drivers. It will not include people who are just professionals at the game.

Nevada And New Jersey Approves Betting

Both the states of Nevada and New Jersey are allowing bettors to wager on this specific event. That does not mean that all iRacing or esports can be wagered on in these states.

Rules and regulations are set to approve such events on a case by case basis. For example, Nevada approved betting of the invitational series as an ‘other event’ instead of it being labeled as esports.

New Jersey, on the other hand, says that the invitational does qualify as esports betting. New Jersey has approved of esports betting in the past, but this is still an uncommon occurrence, even though esports betting is gaining popularity.

State laws prevent land-based sportsbooks to have multiple esports events available to wager on. However, these sportsbooks are now losing money and need to fill the void with some type of sports-related event.
