MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Bettors are anticipating a new retail Michigan sportsbook in early 2021 after the Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort announced it will begin offering sports betting soon.
The casino plans to rename its sports bar to Ascend Sports Book & Lounge and start taking bets on sporting events sometime in January.
There has been no technology partner for the sportsbook announced by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe that owns the casino.
The addition will only enhance the offerings that already exist in the venue including table games, bingo, slots, entertainment multiple restaurants, and bars.
“We will be upgrading Ascend, an already great venue, to accommodate sports betting,” said Mike Bean, Chief Executive Officer. “Changes will include more televisions, betting kiosks, a betting window and a ticker tape. The improvements will be in phases, initially starting with kiosk betting until the betting window modifications are complete.”
Soaring Eagle is not the only casino that will be bringing sports betting to Michigan players because Creek Lounge, its sister property Saganing Eagles Landing Casino & Hotel in Stanish, and the Slot Place and Bigo Hall in Mount Pleasant will all be announcing a brand new sportsbook for their venue soon.
There are 26 casinos in the state of Michigan with 23 tribal casinos and 14 casinos with legal sports betting for guests. The Soaring Eagle casino, specifically, is a well-known brand and Michigan’s largest casino.
Sports bettors in Michigan can also expect to see online gambling to be officially launched in the state soon. Once the Michigan Gaming Control Board meets on Tuesday, there will be more updates on when online betting will go live.
For the Soaring Eagle Casino, the tribe planning on using its own branding for online casino gaming and sports betting in the future.
