LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. – The 13th retail sportsbook in Pennsylvania has come by way of the Downs in Lehigh Valley. The site is also the state’s third OTB location to operate sports betting and is owned by the Mohegan Sun Pocono.

A test run has been launched and would give residents of Lehigh Valley a more convenient option as it is closer than the next PA sportsbook which is over an hour away.

13th Retail Sportsbook

Downs in Lehigh Valley is looking to bring in four teller windows and 10 kiosks in which bettors will be able to place their bets.

The opening of this sportsbook comes at a very convenient time as March Madness is about to begin. It is also more convenient for the residents in and around Lehigh Valley as without this sports gambling venue they would need to travel an hour or more to the nearest sportsbook.

Trial Period

Before the official grand opening of the new sportsbook, there was a trial period that began on Monday. During this trial run, they have been be looking for things to fix, things to enhance, teach employees the knowledge of working at a sportsbook.

“In a nutshell, our staff is on the ground there to monitor all aspects of operating the sportsbook—among many things, we are looking at how well trained are personnel; the reliability of the systems in place including networks, software and hardware; adherence to regulations and protocols; and management of all aspects of the financials including the handling, recording and end-of-gaming-day reconciliations of funds. Normally, we can sign off to 24/7 operation following these two days of testing unless there are significant issues,” said Doug Harbach, a spokesman from the gaming control board.
