NEW YORK – The NFL has struck its first-ever deal with a sports betting operator in the UK and Ireland after signing a sponsorship deal with 888sport.
The league has now named the sports betting provider the official betting partner in the UK and Ireland right in time for the kickoff of the 2020 season on Thursday night.
This agreement also makes 888sports the official NFL betting partner of the Super Bowl and of the NFL London Games throughout the 2021-22 season to celebrate the growing passion for the league especially amongst the fans in the UK and Ireland.
“This is the start of an exciting chapter for 888sport,” said Guy Cohen, SVP Head of B2Cat 888. “We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of live sporting experiences and we’re delighted to partner with an internationally adored brand such as the NFL. We look forward to playing our part in an exciting NFL season, which kicks off this weekend, and beyond.”
The legal sports betting partnership will be supported by the broadcast sponsorship of Sunday and Monday Football, Playoffs, and the Super Bowl that begins after the season opener between the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Houston Texans on Thursday.
These broadcasts will be on the new Sky Sports NFL channel which will air three games on the first full Sunday of NFL games. Tom Brady’s debut with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the New Orleans Saints, Cam Newton’s start with the New England Patriots against the Miami Dolphins, and the Dallas Cowboys at the Los Angeles Rams are the games appearing on the channel.
“We are delighted to partner with 888Sport, our first official UK betting partner,” said Chris Halpin, NFL executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer. “It is a brand that will help us deepen fans’ engagement with our sport, and this partnership will provide us with strategic insights that will shape our broader sports betting strategy.”
Beginning on Thursday, 888sports is launching “The Punt” which is a new weekly social video series to provide NFL fans with engaging content and will be available on 888sport’s social channels.
The series will feature celebrity guests ready to discuss the NFL including Kansas City fan and Olympic gold Medalist Sam Quek, social influencer and Dallas Cowboy fan Will Brazier, and Las Vegas Raiders fan and BBC journalist Steffan Powell.
