TORONTO — Ontario’s regulated online gambling industry closed the year with a standout December, posting revenue and wagering totals among the strongest seen since the market’s launch.
With $425.4 million in gross gaming revenue last month, Ontario’s regulated iGaming business broke its own records. This was the first time the province had exceeded the $400 million mark in consecutive months, surpassing the previous high of $406.2 million established in November.
Over the course of the year, licensed operators in Ontario reported around $4 billion in revenue, a significant 34% increase over the almost $3 billion reported in 2024. The total operator income from the market’s formal opening in April 2022 has already surpassed $10.2 billion, providing the province with roughly $2.04 billion in tax revenues under Ontario’s 20% gaming revenue levy.
December’s milestone figures stemmed from close to $9.5 billion in total cash wagers placed across all platforms. Online casino gaming held the dominant position in the market, representing $8.27 billion, or 87%, of all wagering activity throughout the month. Casino revenue by itself hit $320.5 million in December, establishing the highest single-month figure in market history.
Sports Betting Shows Momentum
The legal sports betting business ended 2025 with significant momentum following a tumultuous year. Compared to December 2024, when sportsbooks only made $39.6 million, December saw a huge return from the previous year, rising more than 150%.
Ontario sportsbooks produced $99.1 million in revenue during December, marking the second greatest month of 2025, after only November’s record-setting $102 million haul. Since its inception in 2022, the market’s performance in the last two months has raised the bar for sports betting.
Sports betting made $814.9 million in 2025, while legal online casinos made $3.15 billion. Both industries saw strong growth over the previous year. The market keeps growing as additional operators join the landscape.
There are currently 48 licensed operators running 82 different gaming platforms on Canadian betting sites in Ontario. Several new players have entered the industry in recent months, such as DAZN Bet, which was granted a license in January 2026, and High Roller Technologies, whose application is currently being reviewed by provincial regulators.
