Hollywood Casino York will have a sportsbook.

  • Penn National Hollywood Casino will replace a Sears store that was located in York Galleria Mall.
  • The casino will be eligible to offer sports betting as well as slot machines and table games to those 21 and older.
  • Roughly 500 jobs are expected to be created from the construction of the facility to the operation of the casino.

YORK, Pa. – Another gaming venue is coming to Pennsylvania, as the former Sears department store in York Galleria Mall will be making the transition. Last week, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board approved a license for Penn National Gaming for the development of a Hollywood Casino.

The approved licensing – which cost Penn National Gaming Inc. almost over $50 million in Category 4 licensing fees alone – allows the establishment to offer table games, slot machines and sports betting.

A racebook and sportsbook will also be able to be offered.

The total cost of the project is expected to reach roughly $120 million.

“[We] look forward to opening the doors at Hollywood Casino York as soon as possible,” said Timothy J Wilmott, Penn National Gaming’s CEO. “The property will be ideally located to draw customers from south central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland, while also protecting our existing market share at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course.”

A Look Into The New Casino

The expected final product will feature 500 slots and two dozen table games. However, under the law of the Category 4 licensing fee, the 80,000 square foot facility is eligible to host up to 750 slot machines and 40 table games.

The slot machines will range in price from penny slots to $100 rolls and the table games will feature the typical craps, roulette, and blackjack.

Those under 21 will not be allowed to visit the casino or the restaurants that will be offered inside the facility. With around the clock security, IDs will be checked immediately when attempting to enter the facility.

The Impact On The Local Community

While the satellite casino is being built, a total of 250 jobs are expected to be needed to complete the year-long project. After the build-out, additional employees will be needed to operate the casino.

“Hollywood Casino York will become an economic engine in Springettsbury Township and the greater community,”

“We have already met with local workforce development organizations to begin the process of identifying our future team members and creating approximately 200 new permanent jobs in York County,” said Wilmott.

The town will receive 1% of all revenue from table games and 2% of revenue from the slot machines. Sports betting, like every other Pennsylvania sportsbook, will be taxed at 36%, with all but 2% going to the state government.
