LOS ANGELES – Betting on the new indoor golf league, the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL), met a controversial twist during Tuesday’s match between Atlanta Drive GC and New York Golf Club. Atlanta golfer Billy Horschel claims TGL producers asked the team to keep the match close after the first two TGL matches were blow outs.

“Obviously the last two weeks have been blow outs and this one isn’t. Jeff, the producer has asked us nicely to keep it close and we’re trying to accommodate him as much as we can,” Horschel told ESPN sideline reporter Marty Smith during an in-game interview.

Horschel spilled the beans on live TV and golf fans are now questioning the integrity of the league. TGL has a legal sports betting partnership with FanDuel Sportsbook and many US sportsbooks offer betting odds for each match.

“FanDuel wants me to gamble on this. Responsibly, of course” remarked one user on X, while another posted “HAS to be investigated. This is the equivalent of points shaving in other sports to “keep it close”. Once betting is involved it changes everything.”

Was Billy Horschel Joking About Potential TGL Match-Fixing?

It’s quite possible this is all just Horschel and the producers making jokes about the lackluster competition in the first two TGL events. The first two matches ended 9-2 and 12-1, so entertainment saw a steep drop off for fans knowing the matches were decided so early.

Regardless, it’s a bad look for the league and makes it hard for fans to trust a bet on TGL on any sportsbook. Atlanta Drive GC went on to win the match 4-0 and cashed their -145 moneyline odds on Tuesday.
