• Wheeling Island Casino And Mardi Gras Casino Are Both Owned By Delaware North
  • The BetLucky App, Also Owned By Delaware North, Is Currently Suspended As Well

WHEELING, W. Va. – Sports bettors in West Virginia that have recently frequented either the Wheeling Island or Mardis Gras Casino sportsbook are in for bad news. Both casinos have temporarily suspended all sports betting activity in person and through the BetLucky app.

The gaming venue’s parent company Delaware North announced the decision earlier this week. While this may eliminate any chance of someone  going to place new wagers at their facilities, both operators will honor payouts on all previous bets made.

The decision came without warning and without a definite timeline for when sports betting operations will return. Clear reasoning for why the company has stopped sports betting operations was also not given.

The three other casino sportsbooks in West Virginia have remained active and are still currently taking in bets.

What This Means For Online Gambling In West Virginia

While the two casinos are located on the Western side of the state, BetLucky is available to anyone located in West Virginia’s borders. This means that not only are sports bettors in the entire Mountaineer State affected by the suspension but potentially recent tourists as well.

BetLucky is also the only online sports betting platform in the state at this time. Other companies looking to enter the market later this year could now hesitate to bring their online sportsbooks.

State officials are also in the process of potentially passing WV H 2934, a house bill that would allow for legal online poker and casino gaming in W.V.

Depending on the reasoning for the temporary suspension, this could affect their decision as to whether or not to expand gaming operations further.

Although, most consequences are up to speculation now as news surrounding this topic is still in development. We will continuously update this story as it unfolds.
