Only four post-time favorites have won the Belmont over the past 25 years. Essential Quality is the current betting favorite and will likely retain the shortest odds by the time the race begins. Essential Quality was the post-time favorite in the Kentucky Derby and finished fourth.

Speed Doesn’t Necessarily Hold Up

Of the last 35 years of the event, only three horses have managed to wire the field. This isn’t too surprising since it is the longest race that the 3-year-olds will run. While things can change when the gates open, Rock Your World is predicted to be the speed of the race and should grab the lead early.

By the process of elimination horse racing bettors, if strictly following these trends, are left with Hot Rod Charlie, Known Agenda, Bourbonic, and Overtook. Overtook and Bourbonic are likely just not good enough to win which may leave legal sports bettors with just a couple of options.
