Caesars Sportsbook

  • The Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals will move to Virginia by 2028.
  • Caesars Sportsbook could be gone from Washington D.C. if the teams move.

WASHINGTON D.C. – The regulated sports betting market in Washington D.C. could lose their most popular betting option in Caesars Sportsbook between now and 2028. This comes as both the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals will move to Virginia by then leaving Caesars without a professional sports team to partner with in Capital One Arena.

Currently inside of Capital One Arena is a retail Caesars Sportsbook location that also hosts the online servers of their legal sports betting site. Caesars has been the most popular sports betting option in Washington D.C. having taken up an industry leading 36% of the betting handle in the month of October.

The way that Washington D.C. sports betting laws work, the operator must be partnered with a professional sports team. That being said, both the Caps and Wizards are partners of Caesars Sportsbook so if they jump shit to Virginia, it would leave them without a professional sports team partnership.

Could The Mystic Work Their Magic To Save Caesars?

The only way that Caesars could make things work and keep their sports betting licensed is if they partner with another Washington D.C. sports team. In this case, the only remaining team that they could partner with would be the Washington Mystic of the WNBA.

That would mean the Mystic would need to take over the vacancy at Capital One Arena as they are currently playing at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

The only regulated sports betting app in Washington D.C. that isn’t partnered with a professional sports team is the GameBetDC app.
