• Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2017.
  • Recruiters from various NFL teams will check out Kaepernick working out.
  • Odds boards are allowing people to wager whether or not Kaepernick will be picked up.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With Colin Kaepernick having a public workout session on Saturday, people can bet if he will be picked up on a team.

Kaepernick used to be a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers drafted Kaepernick back in 2011. Since then, he was a quarterback for the team until the 2016 season. In 2016, Kaepernick started to sit down during the national anthem before the start of his games. He did so to protest racial injustice around the country. He then started kneeling, and the entire country was watching.

Because of the controversy surrounding him, Kaepernick has become a very polarized icon in the US. In 2017, Kaepernick decided not to resign with the 49ers and became a free agent. Because of the controversy surrounding him, no other team decided to pick him up, but that could change soon.

“I’m just getting word from my representatives that the NFL league office reached out to them about a workout in Atlanta on Saturday. I’ve been in shape and ready for this for 3 years, can’t wait to see the head coaches and GMs on Saturday,” said Kaepernick in a tweet.

This Saturday, Kaepernick will be in Atlanta for a public workout. This workout will allow scouts from NFL teams to check out Kaepernick to see if he is in proper shape. Two teams have committed to show up to this public workout. Representatives from the Miami Dolphins and the Detroit Lions will be in attendance. Since the news is on such short notice, it is unknown if more reps will be present.

Thanks to the popularity of Kaepernick, those interested in NFL betting can put money on if they believe Kaepernick will be picked up or not. As presented on the odds above, Kaepernick has odds of -900 to NOT be signed to an NFL team before the end of the 2019-2020 regular season. On the opposite side of the wager, those who believe Kaepernick will sign with a team before season’s end will have odds of +500 to support their wager.

Kaepernick has been out of the NFL for three years now. This public workout could be the chance that he has been looking for to play in the league again. But coaches of the league will often shy away from a controversial pickup, even if it is beneficial. Only time will tell if a team will sign Kaepernick or not before the end of the season. If he does, those who took a chance on legal sports betting sites offering odds on the Kaepernick signing will be quite happy.
