Will The Big 12 Break Up Before The 2022 Football Season?

• The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners have been invited to move to the SEC for the start of the 2025 football season.

IRVING, Texas — With the college football season just under one month away, the Big 12 Conference got some breaking news that both the University of Texas and the University of Oklahoma will be moving their athletic programs to the SEC at the start of the 2025 season.

The SEC came together on July 30 to officially vote on extending the invitations to both programs entering their conference which ended in a unanimous 14-0 vote in favor of it.

Following that, both Texas and Oklahoma held votes as well to accept the invitations with both results being 6-0.

Now that two of the premier programs in the Big 12 have announced their departure, legal sports betting sites have odds on if the conference will break up or not before the start of the 2022 football season.

Both Texas and Oklahoma will still be members of the conference until 2025 so expect officials to squeeze everything they can out of them while they can.

In terms of college football, there is still plenty of competition to go around for the upcoming 2021 season and the 2022 season. Aside from Oklahoma and Texas being ranked in the top 10, they are joined in-conference by Iowa State as well.

Big 12 Basketball

To take it a step further, the Big 12 college basketball teams are some of the best in the country, especially with Baylor coming off of a National Championship.

Other teams such as Kansas, West Virginia, and Texas Tech are still considered contending teams.

While the conference will still likely play a role in college sports this season, the Big 12 is at risk of folding if they cannot replace the powerhouses leaving.
