ARLINGTON, Texas – The first-place Texas Rangers acquired reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday for minor league infielder Angel Arredondo, the first significant strike of a deadline week that ends Monday at 6 p.m. ET. The World Series board they are chasing gave them no credit going in: entering the trade, most major books still priced the trailing Seattle Mariners shorter than the division leader.
A Reliever For Now, A Catcher For Later
Silseth is the piece built for August. The 26-year-old right-hander has a 2.72 ERA over 47 appearances for the Angels this season, with 48 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings. That works out to nearly 11 strikeouts per nine innings, and a first-place club at 55-53 will take that arm in a setup role.
O’Hoppe is the buy-low half of the return. The 26-year-old catcher is hitting .209/.271/.295 with four home runs in 75 games, and Texas optioned him to Triple-A Round Rock on arrival, with manager Skip Schumaker saying he is “excited to go down and work on some stuff.” “The kid hits the ball as hard as anybody,” Schumaker said.
The move still addresses a genuine hole. Danny Jansen is on the injured list with a right forearm strain, Kyle Higashioka with a right flexor strain, and Elias Diaz, signed in June when Jansen first went down, has been carrying the position.
Los Angeles, last in the AL West at 42-66 entering play Wednesday, received Arredondo, a 19-year-old infielder hitting .247 with eight home runs and 47 RBIs in 86 games at Single-A Hickory. Two established major leaguers for one Single-A prospect is a seller’s opening bid, five days before the bell.
The Board Still Prices Seattle Over The Leader
Texas leads the AL West, yet on World Series boards the trailing Mariners were the shorter price at three of five major books the day before the trade, and level at the other two.

Seattle’s +1600 implies about 5.9 percent, while the Rangers’ +2200 at BetMGM implies about 4.3 percent — the payout math says the books are pricing the rosters, not the standings.
