BENSALEM, Pa. – With another month of PA sports betting on the books, a new casino has taken the lead in terms of revenue. Parx Casino, which trailed SugarHouse in February and March, emerged from April with the highest amount of sports wagering revenue and taxes granted to the state.

According to the April figures posted by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), Parx Casino was able to generate a total handle of $6,850,305, kept $907,298 in revenue, and from that was able to provide the state with $326,627 in total taxes.

The total handle is the number of bets taken in, while revenue is what the casino keeps after paying out to its sports bettors. Pennsylvania’s 36% tax rate is the highest of any state with legal sports betting.

Although, when viewing the numbers accrued by each sportsbook in PA, Parx Casino did not have the largest handle for the month.

That title goes to Rivers Casino, which was able to rake in $8,159,827 in total bets.

Rivers casino is currently home to the only sportsbook in the Pittsburgh area, while Parx hosts one of six sports betting facilities around the Philadelphia area.

Overall, PA sportsbooks combined to provide the state with $1,519,734 for the month of April alone.

That number is expected to increase in the near future. Several casinos and racinos, such as Presque Isle Downs and the Mohegan Sun Pocono, have been approved by the PGCB but have yet to launch their sports betting operations.

Pennsylvania is also expected to launch mobile betting in the near future. Last month, Doug Harbach, spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, gave his word on the matter.

“I really believe that within the next two to three weeks, we will see the first of the sports wagering internet sites go up for testing.”

Experts estimate that an online Pennsylvania sports betting market, provided by sportsbooks such as Parx Casino, could launch the Keystone state to holding the largest sports gambling industry in the country.
