ELIZABETH, Ind. – The $90 million casino, Caesars Southern Indiana Hotel & Casino, officially opened this week replacing the riverboat casino known as Horseshoe Southern Indiana.

After 18 months of development, guests will now have access to the 110,000 square feet facility which includes retail, dining, gaming, and entertainment options all in one space. The new casino will include new and modern amenities including a sportsbook, slots, table games and even poker.

“With completely new gaming facilities, increased amenities and new restaurant offerings, Caesars Southern Indiana will elevate the experience for our guests,” said, Brad Seigel, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Caesars Southern Indiana.

The state of Indiana legalized sports betting in early May. Since the legalization, the state has seen many race tracks, land-based casinos, and riverboat casinos open in the fall.

State-regulated online sportsbook sites are also legal and available in the state. You can register and use them anywhere within Indiana’s borders.

Caesars is geared towards pulling back patrons who avoid driving on Indiana’s 111 to the complex which is 12 miles downriver from downtown. A key factor this casino will have to keep in mind is the Sherman Minton Bridge, which takes car traffic and many potential gamblers over Interstate 64 to the Hoosier State. This bridge will be closed during the next two years due to construction.

“It’s a big deal,” said Seigel. However, the casino is hoping that at least one lane of the bridge will remain open during construction as that would be best for businesses located on either side of the river.
