• Miami Valley Gaming & Racing is a joint venture between Churchill Downs Incorporated and Delaware North Gaming & Entertainment.
  • The expansion will include a hotel, expanded gaming floor, and parking garage.
  • Construction of the project is estimated to be completed in the second quarter of 2021, but there is a sports betting bill currently in the Ohio House of Representatives.

LEBANON, Ohio – Miami Valley Gaming & Racing (MVG), a joint venture made possible through a partnership with Delaware North Gaming and Entertainment and Churchill Downs Incorporated, is set to undergo an expansion worth $100 million.

According to Churchill Down’s press release, the project will include building a hotel with 192 rooms, a parking garage with 1,000 spaces, and a 10,000 square foot expansion of gaming floor space. The number of VLT’s on the property will also add up to be about 2,200 in operation.

“Miami Valley Gaming has been very successful since it was built in 2013, and the team has consistently driven strong growth while also being a great asset to their community,” said CEO of Churchill Downs Incorporated, Bill Carstanjen.

“This investment will enable MVG to meet the increased demand from a broader geographical reach and enhance the guest experience with high-quality amenities.”

However, an amenity that wasn’t mentioned was the inclusion of an Ohio sportsbook. OH HB 194 is a sports betting bill that is currently sitting in Ohio’s House of Representatives.

If signed into law, it would legalize sports betting in Ohio through the state’s racinos, JACK Entertainment venues, and at fraternal partners of the Ohio Lottery.

Both Churchill Downs and Delaware North are no strangers to operating legal sports betting in states outside of Nevada. Churchill Downs operates sportsbooks in Mississippi as Pennsylvania. Delaware North operated two sportsbooks as well as a sports betting app in West Virginia before operations were suspended earlier this year.

Construction and renovations to MVG are expected to finish within the second quarter of 2021. But, with legislation in their favor this year and experienced sports betting providers funding the expansion, it would come as no surprise if MVG were to open a sportsbook within their upgraded casino space.
