Donald Trump Jr. Shows Support for Sportsbooks in the South
  • Donald Trump Jr. weighed in on the sports betting debate this weekend, backing calls for Alabama and Georgia to legalize sports betting.

ATLANTA – Two of the states without sports betting, Alabama and Georgia, are holdouts in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) region.

“Crazy. Totally agree on changing it,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on X, quoting political commentator Greg Price’s post talking about legal sports betting.

While Trump Jr. did not elaborate on whether he personally plans to push for reform, his remark comes against the backdrop of his deepening involvement in prediction markets.

Since early 2025, Trump Jr. has taken on advisory roles with platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket, and through his venture capital firm 1789 Capital, has invested in the blockchain-based Polymarket as it re-enters the U.S. market under Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) oversight.

The comment highlights a growing tension surrounding Georgia sports betting, where residents often turn to online sportsbooks to place wagers despite the absence of state-licensed options. The same is true for Alabama sports betting, with most of the SEC footprint already embracing regulated markets.

Trump Jr.’s support for expansion adds a political dimension to the discussion, particularly as the CFTC and SEC weigh new frameworks for event-based trading. Regulatory leadership at the CFTC remains in flux, but both agencies have recently signaled openness to broader innovation in prediction and wagering markets.

Whether Trump Jr.’s comment represents casual agreement or a signal of future advocacy remains to be seen. But his crossover role in politics, venture capital, and prediction markets makes his stance notable, especially in two states where college football betting is the majority.
