INDIANAPOLISIndiana sports betting handle has continued its trend of breaking records. November marked three months in a row that the Hoosier States has eclipsed its own record for the highest betting handle in a single month.

According to the Indiana Gaming Commission, Indiana sportsbooks were able to take in $251,403,994 in total sports bets. The amount of betting handle puts Indiana back at number five in the nation for largest single betting handle in a month.

Of the total handle, $2,406,551 was collected in sports wagering tax.

What Did Indiana Sports Bettors Bet On?

As expected, football was the highest wagered on sport for the month. Football bets totaled $113,482,907. After that was surprisingly basketball. Even though the NBA season had ended the month before, NBA bets were still able to rake in $17,656,869.

Parlay bets were quite popular having accumulated $66,045,256. All other sports besides baseball combined for a total of $53,294,011.

Where Were Bettors Placing Their Wagers?

As expected, the sportsbooks located closest to the major cities collected the most sports bets in Indiana.

Ameristar Casino, located in East Chicago and only a short drive away from Chicago, Illinois, took in $103,687,824 in bets. This was by far the largest handle of any legal sportsbook in Indiana.

The Blue Chip Casino brought in the second-largest amount of bets at $65,953,899. Blue Chip is located around an hour out from both Chicago and South Bend, Indiana.

Belterra Casino and Hollywood Lawrenceburg came in at three and four. Both locations are a short drive away from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Moving Forward

The fact that Indiana has continued to break records despite Illinois growing its legal sports betting market goes to show that many locals are starting to catch on the industry.

Indiana’s neighbors to the east still have yet to see legal Ohio sports betting come to fruition. Indiana sportsbooks are still able to lure in tourists from Ohio and Kentucky while also growing their local base.

The month of December is also expected to be a step up from November as well given the fact that both college basketball and NBA are back this month. Basketball has proven to be the preferred sport to bet on in Indiana. That, combined with the final NFL games should be a recipe for sports betting success.
