Kentucky Horse Racing Commission

  • Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced pre-registration for mobile sports betting accounts beginning on August 28.
  • Mobile sports betting launches a month later on September 28.
  • Pre-registration is just one portion of the Kentucky sports betting timeline provided by Governor Beshear.

FRANKFORT, KY – Kentucky residents can pre-register their mobile sports betting accounts beginning on Monday, August 28 at 6:00 a.m. ET. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission will vote on August 22 to determine which mobile applications such as FanDuel or DraftKings will be approved for use.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear gave a detailed timeline for the tiered rollout of legal sports betting in the Blue Grass State. Six days after it’s determined which legal mobile sportsbooks will be available in Kentucky, residents can pre-register with the mobile application of their choice for the September 28 online sports betting launch.

“The countdown is on. We are just three weeks away from sports wagering in Kentucky,” said Governor Beshear in a KHRC release. “We are ready to deliver the quality entertainment experience Kentuckians asked for, while bringing money to the state to support pensions and free up funds that can be used to build a better Kentucky.”

Kentuckians are less than a month away, with betting at brick and mortar sportsbooks officially launching on September 7 at 10:00 a.m. ET.

Mobile Bettors Must be Patient

Although the pre-registration sign ups at legal online sportsbooks get Kentuckians excited, mobile sports betting is still a month away from the pre-registration opening date. However, the pre-registration will make the eventual mobile launch a smoother process.

The implementation of a tiered launch process and gradual sign ups prevents the electronic systems from crashing on the highly anticipated mobile Kentucky sports betting launch day.
