Nine online sports betting sites in Michigan will launch on January 22, 2021.

  • Michigan will have nine mobile and internet sportsbooks launch on Friday at noon for gambling on sporting events.
  • Not only will Michiganders be able to gamble on sports, but they will also have access to casino gaming options with almost all of the same platforms.

DETROIT – The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has announced that nine of the fifteen approved online sportsbooks in MI can go live to the public starting at noon on Friday. This announcement has been over a year in the making and not only includes sportsbooks but internet casino gaming platforms as well.

For Michigander football fans, the timing couldn’t be more perfect as the weekend will see two NFL Conference Championship games that can now be gambled on through mobile sports betting platforms offered by the state.

“The Michigan Gaming Control Board and the state’s commercial and tribal casinos will begin a new era Jan. 22 with the launch of regulated online gaming and sports betting,” said Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director. “Michigan residents love sports and, judging by inquiries we’ve received, eagerly anticipate using mobile devices to place bets through the commercial and tribal casinos.”

Which Mobile Sportsbooks Will Be Available On Friday?

Mobile sports betting has always been the most popular way to wager in the United States when gamblers are given the option because it is the most convenient.

In today’s modernized society, betting on sports matchups through mobile devices and the internet is fast and doesn’t require taking extra time out of a person’s day to drive to a sportsbook establishment.

Sports fans in Michigan who have not yet signed up with operators that were allowing for pre-sign up memberships will now have nine different platforms to choose from. Gamblers in Michigan have no legal cap as to how many sportsbooks they can wager with, being eligible to join all nine if they wanted to.

These sportsbooks are each tethered to a land-based establishment in the Wolverine State. The following is a list of the mobile sportsbooks that will launch in Michigan on Friday and the location they’re partnered with per the MGCB:

  • DraftKings Sportsbook through Bay Mills Indian Community
  • William Hill Sportsbook through Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians
  • Barstool Sportsbook through Greektown Casino
  • TwinSpires Sportsbook through Hannahville Indian Community
  • Golden Nugget Sportsbook through Keweenaw Bay Indian Community
  • BetRivers Sportsbook through Little River Band of Ottawa Indians
  • BetMGM/Roar Digital Sportsbook through MGM Grand Detroit
  • FanDuel Sportsbook through MotorCity Casino
  • WynnBET Sportsbook through Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians

Each of these operators will be both for sports wagering and casino iGaming except for Barstool Sportsbook which is a strictly sports betting platform.

What’s Next?

Legal sports betting in Michigan will have six more mobile and internet sports betting platforms to launch by the end of January. These sports wagering operators include FOX Bet, PointsBet, Parx, Kambi, Scientific Games, and an unknown platform with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

After all of the applications have launched in the Wolverine State, it is projected that the industry will see $8 billion in annual handle with $500 million in revenue in a seasoned market.

The MGCB is the first to have both legal sports betting and iGaming apps rollout at the exact same time in the United States. Because this is something that’s never been done before, the progress of the industry will be closely monitored.

As for sports bettors in the state of Michigan, these newly unveiled platforms can expect some heavy action with their NFL betting lines come the weekend.
