Gas stations in Illinois could be selling parlay cards to sports bettors very soon!

  • The Illinois Lottery is making preparations to launch parlay cards.
  • There is no estimated date to when Illinois sports betting will launch.
  • There could be over 5,000 locations in Illinois to bet on sports.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Parlay cards could be introduced to over 5,000 retail locations in Illinois in the upcoming months.

One Small Part Of A Bill

Sports betting has recently become legal. At the current moment, there are no active sportsbooks in the state. IL SB 690 is the bill that legalized sports betting in Illinois. The document is 816 pages long. Within that document, only six pages reference the Illinois Lottery sports wagering pilot program.

The Illinois Lottery provides lottery tickets to gamblers in thousands of retail locations. Within the coming months, the Lottery will also provide parlay cards as well. This will likely appear first before the Illinois Gaming Commission rolls out single-game sportsbooks.

“It’s a great opportunity for the lottery to grow and facilitate the state’s revenue,” said Cornell Wilson, general counsel for the Illinois Lottery.

The state of Illinois is hoping that sports betting will be profitable for the state. Governor J.B. Pritzker is hoping that sports betting will bring $58 million to $102 million to the state. This pilot program could be the potential start to that.

How Will This Work?

The launch for the sports wagering program will happen in waves. In the first year, the Lottery will install electronic sports betting kiosks to 2,500 retailers. These sports betting kiosks will allow sports bettors to make their parlay bets. No other type of sports bets can be made. After the first year, the Lottery will then add kiosks to an additional 2,500 retailers.

When the Illinois Lottery launches this program, it will get the ball rolling for Illinois sports betting.
