Northern Trust

  • The FedEx Cup Playoffs officially begin Thursday at the Northern Trust with some promising wagers available for both the entire tournament and the first round.
  • Some of the best odds for Thursday include Viktor Hovland at +125 in a first-round three-ball against Ryan Palmer and Cameron Smith.
  • Other bets include Patrick Reed (-130) over Tony Finau for the tournament, Bryson DeChambeau (-115) against Jon Rahm (-115), and Matthew Wolff (-130) over Kevin Kisner (EVEN).

NORTON, Mass – The Northern Trust welcomes the beginning of the FedEx Cup Playoffs, officially signaling one of the best times of the year for golf fans and bettors.

The very best of the PGA Tour will all be competing at the highest level over the next few weeks as all the top players attempt to make a run at the FedEx Cup.

There is still time to get some last-minute bets in on the tournament, and with so many lines and odds available to choose from, there are infinite money-making avenues one could take.

Some of the best bets for Thursday’s round feature some terrific three-ball matchups in the afternoon.

First Round 3 Balls – 12:55 p.m. ET

  • Viktor Hovland +125
  • Ryan Palmer +175
  • Cameron Smith +250

Starting off with an appetizing three-ball that puts young Norwegian star Viktor Hovland up against Ryan Palmer and Cameron Smith in the first round.

Hovland was one of the best golfers coming out of the pandemic hiatus but cooled off a bit at the St. Jude and PGA Championship.

Nevertheless, Hovland should enjoy the layout at TPC Boston and capitalize on his strong iron play enough to overcome Palmer and Smith, who are overvalued after sporadic high finishes.

Tournament Head To Head

  • Patrick Reed -130
  • Tony Finau EVEN

This bet jumped off of the online sportsbook page due to the continued overvaluing of Tony Finau.

While Finau enjoyed top-10 finishes at the PGA Championship, Memorial, and 3M Open, he simply cannot finish a tournament to save his life. Finau hasn’t won an event in years and has the worst Sunday scoring average of anyone in the top 30 in Cup points.

Reed hasn’t been racking up the wins either, but has been coming on strong as of late and doesn’t carry the same curse that Finau is burdened with.

Tournament Head To Head

  • Bryson DeChambeau -115
  • Jon Rahm -115

One of the more interesting golf matchup bets features 2020’s most popular player Bryson DeChambeau against Jon Rahm.

Bryson has been the longest player off the tee so far in his return to play but could run into some problems on a course like TPC Boston. The fescue-lined fairways could catch Bryson as he tries to make up ground with his driver, especially now that he apparently thinks he can hit the ball even harder.

Rahm has been playing terrific after his win at the Memorial, and could accurately outplay DeChambeau this weekend.

Tournament Head To Head

  • Kevin Kisner +110
  • Matthew Wolff -140

Matthew Wolff has been another surprise star so far this season. Wolff is just in his second season on Tour and finished T4 at the PGA Championship, to go along with some other great finishes since the hiatus.

Kisner is being extremely overvalued due to a high finish at the Wyndham Championship in a weak field and a top-20 at the PGA Championship.

Kisner is still a golfer who routinely misses the cut and does not have the same upside or ceiling as a player like Wolff.

Look for Wolff to use his accurate power off the tee to score a high finish this weekend.

No matter which golfers get the trust of the bettors this weekend, the world can celebrate the beginning of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and enjoy the best in the world play the game on the biggest stage.
