CHARLESTON, W.V. – West Virginia managed to bounce back in betting activity in November after seeing a slight dip in activity in October.

Online and mobile sports betting was responsible for the bulk of the increase in betting activity, with more than half of the total wagers taken online.

Sports betting also saw an increase year over year from November 2019, showing that sports betting in West Virginia is a steadily growing market.

Sports Betting Growth

Sports betting activity in West Virginia had a strong increase in November. The overall betting handle increased 8.7%.

WV bettors wagered $48,532,442 in November, which is also a 47.2% increase from the $33 million in November 2019.

Mobile sportsbooks were responsible for the biggest legal sports betting activity in November. More than $28.4 million were wagered at mobile sportsbooks, 58.5% of the total betting handle.

This is also a 6.6% increase from October which saw $26.6 million wagered online and a 74.8% increase from November 2019 which saw just $16.3 million in mobile betting activity.

The sports betting revenue also saw a strong increase in November.

The Mountain State took in $4.4 million in tax revenue, which is a 17.8% increase from October’s $3.7 million. Revenue is also up 92.5% from the $2.3 million in November 2019.

In terms of retail sportsbooks, the Mountaineer Casino continues to be the most popular sports betting local in the state. Over $2.9 million was wagered at the popular sportsbook.

Overall, the Mountaineer has collected over $11 million in wagers in 2020, the most from any single retail sportsbook.

With the NFL season in full swing and the NBA season just weeks away from returning, the overall betting numbers are expected to steadily increase as the year draws to a close.

West Virginia’s sports betting market has continued to trend in a positive direction with mobile betting proving to be the primary catalyst for success.
