Ten Online Sportsbooks In Michigan Set To Launch Today

A total of ten mobile sports in Michigan are set to go live on Friday afternoon, marking the start of a new era for gambling in the Wolverine State.
PointsBet Sportsbook just made it for the official debut date with an approval to be able to launch with the nine other sportsbooks that were licensed earlier.
In a seasoned industry, Michigan estimates $500 million in annual revenue to be seen from the gambling market.

DETROIT – Michigan has approved ten mobile sports betting operators to go live on Friday at 12:00 p.m. EST if they’re ready to launch their platforms to the public.

This is a historical moment for the Wolverine State as they have not yet had a legal mobile gambling industry, let alone a sports wagering one.

Michigan opened their retail sportsbooks in March only to have them close weeks later due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. These internet and mobile sports betting platforms will be unveiled ten months after land-based venues opened their doors.

What was thought to be nine sportsbooks that would open up to the public on Friday in Michigan has now made its way to ten with the addition of PointsBet receiving their licensing by the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).

The other mobile sportsbooks in Michigan include Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM Sportsbook, BetRivers Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, Golden Nugget Sportsbook, TwinSpires Sportsbook, William Hill Sportsbook, and WynnBET Sportsbook.

There have been rumors that FOX Bet will also launch, becoming the eleventh platform to do so but it’s not yet known if this will occur as Flutter will be launching FanDuel and they own both FanDuel and FOX Bet and are unsure if they want to go live with both on the same day in the same state.

Either way, the MGCB is confident with all the operators they’ve chosen to approve by the launch date that was set.

“We want the public to have confidence when they place wagers, and our agency has required the providers to prove they meet Michigan’s standards, which are designed to protect the participants,” said Richard S. Kalm, MGCB executive director.

What Else Is Happening In The Michigan Gaming Industry?

Michigan will be the first state that will open its casino gambling and sports wagering mobile outlets simultaneously. That is something that has never been done in the country to date.

Along with iGaming, and the possible eleven mobile legal sports betting operators opening for Michiganders, there is also a possible four Tribal sportsbook internet applications that could open as well.

This would be Parx with the Gun Lake Indians, Scientific Games with the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians, Kambi with the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, and an unknown company with the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.

The Wolverine State picked a great weekend to launch their online and mobile sportsbook industry with the NFL betting on the AFC and NFC Championship happening this weekend and then the Super Bowl on February 7.

Most, if not, all mobile applications in the state should be available by the time Super Bowl Sunday rolls around. With their new online gaming industry, Michigan expects to see $8 billion in annual handle and $500 million in revenue each year in a seasoned market.
