Virtual NFL Draft Expected To Experience Technical Difficulties.

  • The NFL Draft will be held from April 23-25 and it will all be done with the use of technology.
  • This will be the first Draft in NFL history that will be done online and sportsbooks believe that the enormous event will experience technical difficulties.

NEW YORK – The 2020 NFL Draft will be a virtual event this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic and bookmakers believe technical difficulties are imminent.

The sheer size of all those that have to be involved in the Draft makes it all the more possible that the system is bound to crash. Now bettors for the NFL can wager not only on Draft picks but whether or not there will be technical difficulties with this new style.

Safety Measures In Place

The NFL, having never done a Draft in this manner before, is making sure that they cover all of their bases. Safeguarding the platform is one of those steps. The Draft begins on April 23, and from two weeks prior to the event, the league has been trying to work out any kinks in the system to avoid technical issues.

One safeguard will be a conference call style system where General Managers can call in their picks should their online systems malfunction. All 32 General Managers will have this calling system available as their Plan B.

Another option for system failures is to allow teams to email their Draft picks. Despite this being a new system, there will be no extra time to make picks so franchises will need to act quickly when using the virtual platform.

A Mock Draft Practice Run

The NFL Draft will last until April 25 and the new social distancing style of managers making their picks from home allows them multiple options to communicate. Extra time was requested by General Managers in case issues arose, however, due to the various ways they have been given to communicate, no time outs will be given.

“It was determined that there should be no technological issues standing in the way of a team getting a pick in, so, timeouts are out the window,” said NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Unless a major power outage occurs, there are no other legitimate reasons the NFL has found for allowing extra time for picks. One mock draft will take place ahead of the Draft to make sure that all teams and General Managers know how the system works.

The homes of GM’s are expected to be the epicenters for each team during the three day NFL Draft.

Odds Of Technical Issues

According to online sportsbooks, technical difficulties are going to happen. The wager up on Bovada Sportsbook is not a matter of if they will happen but rather how many times issues will occur with a wager up for the Over/Under on the topic.

How Many Times Will The NFL Draft Broadcast Experience Technical Difficulties

  • Over 4.5 (+120)
  • Under 4.5 (-160)

The NFL Draft will start at 8 p.m. EST on April 23 and can be streamed online on the NFL Network or ESPN. The ABC Network will also be covering the event. With the broadcast going up on multiple networks, it will likely only increase the possibility of technical difficulties.
