The Stampeders are solid favorites at legal sports betting sites, entering the game with a four and a half point cushion from oddsmakers. However, the line certainly could have been higher based on what we’ve seen from these teams this season.
Recent Performance
Calgary has been sputtering as of late, losing their last two games after a 5-1 start to the season.
They lost 23-21 at home in Week 8 to the Montreal Alouettes, who are eying the top of the East Division then dropped their next game to the 2-6 Ottawa Redblacks 31-11, a real cause for concern.
Winnipeg has had a rocky season overall, currently sitting at 4-3 after winning their first four games, losing three straight, then winning their most recent game against the Toronto Argonauts.
Offense vs Defense
The two teams are very similar on paper, both averaging around 27 points per game and taking the top two spots in rushing yards per game.
Calgary does have a slightly more potent passing offense, averaging about 30 more passing yards per game than Winnipeg and ranking amongst the top of the league in passing efficiency with 9.47 yards per attempt, second highest in the CFL.
Winnipeg averages 240.9 passing yards per game and 8.09 yards per attempt, both bottom three in the league.
Defensively, they allow roughly the same amount of passing yards per game and Winnipeg slightly edges out Calgary in rushing yards allowed per game by about ten yards, but efficiency tells a different story.
They both allow just under five yards per carry, but Calgary has a decided advantage in terms of pass defense, allowing just 7.25 yards per attempt, the best in the league.
Meanwhile, Winnipeg allows 9.14 yards per attempt, the third worst in the CFL. Both teams like to run the ball and have had similar numbers stopping the run, but the Stampeders own the passing game on both sides.
Head To Head
The two teams have already played twice this season, both games going in favor of the Stampeders. Neither game was particularly close either, as Calgary won each game by 21 points.
The Blue Bombers had won six straight games against Calgary entering the 2024 season, a streak dating back to 2022, but went 1-1 against the Stampeders last season, now 1-3 in their last four meetings.
In the two games against Winnipeg this season, Calgary quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. has gone 29-42 with 489 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception. There is no reason to believe that the result will be much different in this one.
Bet on Calgary to cover the four and a half point spread with confidence at CFL betting sites.
