Mississippi sports betting revenue in September showed both month-over-month and year-over-year growth.

  • Mississippi sports betting handle is up 28.9% in September compared to the August numbers.
  • September 2020 sports betting revenue in Mississippi is up 17.9% compared to September 2019.
  • Mississippi saw almost $6.6 million in sports betting revenue in September.

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Gaming Commission has officially released the September sports betting revenue report and the numbers show an increase in both wagers and revenue in September.

This could be attributed to the many sporting events from major leagues that were available to be wagered on. The NFL season started, and the NBA and MLB Playoffs were underway.

In addition, September 2020 saw a massive increase in betting activity compared to September 2019, showcasing that sports betting in Mississippi is continuing to be a major win for the Magnolia State.

Sports Betting Increase

The Mississippi sports betting market has continued to see major growth in the industry. September saw a huge leap month on month.

The official reports show that Mississippi took in $52,220,288.51 in wagers, and collected $6,598,930.70 in revenue. This is a 28.9% increase in betting activity and a 78.4% increase in revenue compared to August.

These numbers are also reflective of the overall boom in sports betting that Mississippi saw in 2020, as the betting activity is up 37.7% compared to September 2019.

With the many different sporting events taking place at once, it makes sense that the numbers would be higher this year. This is the first time that sports bettors can bet on the NBA postseason while also taking action on the NFL regular season.

The report shows that most of the betting activity came from the Coastal Region, as over $33.9 million was wagered. The Northern Region saw $11.7 million while the Central Region took in $6.5 million in betting handle.

With Biloxi being the major gambling city in Mississippi, it makes sense that most of the sports betting revenue would come from the Coastal Region.

Football was the most wagered on sport in September, with over $15 million alone wagered in the Coastal Region. This came from the beginning of the NFL season.

With the numbers being this high in September, October is expected to be an even bigger month for legal sports betting as the NBA Finals, MLB postseason, and World Series, as well as the continued NFL season will all be accounted for.
