DOVER, Del. – The official September Delaware sports betting revenue numbers have been released by the Delaware Lottery commission and it shows month-on-month growth from August.

The First State has seen an increase of 146.4% in betting revenue from August and a 143.3% increase in betting handle. This could be attributed to the start of the NFL season and the NBA postseason in play.

Although the total sports betting revenue numbers are lower than they were in September 2019, the steady month-on-month growth in 2020 is still a good sign for the Delaware sports betting market.

Delaware Sports Betting Revenue

The official revenue numbers in Delaware paint a picture of heavy sports betting activity in the First State.

According to the reports, sports bettors have wagered over $7.2 million in betting handle. While compared to September 2019 this is a 38.1% decrease in wagers, the numbers still show a massive boom from the $2.9 million wagered in August.

September saw the NBA postseason, the NHL playoffs, the start of the continued MLB season, and the start of the NFL season.

The increase of major sporting events to wager on can be viewed as the reason for the influx in sports betting activity.

Most of the wagers were taken in at the Delaware Park sportsbook where $3.6 million was bet on sports. Harrington Raceway sportsbook took in over $1.9 million in wagers and the Dover Downs sportsbook took in just under $1.7 million.

In terms of sports betting revenue, the reports show that Delaware saw $904,450 collected. As the state has a 50% tax on sports betting revenue, $452,226 went to the First State.

The revenue numbers in Delaware showcase a massive boom in sports betting as the nation bounces back from the coronavirus pandemic. October numbers are also expected to see a major boom.

The NBA Finals will be wagered on, as well as the continued NFL and MLB seasons. The legal sports betting market in Delaware is only expected to continue to grow.
