Terry Rozier NBA Betting Scandal Traced to Biloxi Sportsbook
  • Harrah’s Gulf Coast in Biloxi was the location of 30 winning wagers on Terry Rozier props minutes before the NBA guard left a 2023 game with an injury.

BILOXI, Miss. — A wave of suspicious NBA prop bets placed at Harrah’s Gulf Coast casino in Biloxi has placed the Mississippi sportsbook at the center of a growing federal investigation into potential betting irregularities involving Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier.

Documents obtained by ESPN through open records requests show that a professional bettor placed 30 separate wagers totaling $13,759 on Rozier’s unders in a March 2023 game — all within a 46-minute window at the Harrah’s Gulf Coast sportsbook. The NBA bets focused on points, rebounds, and assists and were placed at a self-service kiosk and over the counter.

All 30 wagers were successful after Rozier exited the game early in the first quarter with a foot injury. At the time, Rozier was a member of the Charlotte Hornets, who were facing the New Orleans Pelicans.

The sportsbook initially withheld payment, citing internal rules regarding legal sports betting irregularities and concerns about potential use of inside information. According to obtained emails, Harrah’s contacted the Mississippi Gaming Commission to request voiding the bets entirely.

That request was ultimately dropped, and the sportsbook paid out $13,017.70 in net winnings a week later.

The betting activity was flagged by U.S. Integrity, a firm that monitors wagering data for anomalies. According to reporting, multiple sportsbooks in Louisiana also received elevated action on Rozier’s props that same morning. Most operators suspended betting on Rozier markets shortly after a nationwide alert was issued on the day of the game.

Rozier has not been charged with any crime, and the NBA previously stated that its own investigation did not find a violation of league rules. A federal investigation remains ongoing, led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Harrah’s Gulf Coast, operated by Caesars Entertainment, has not issued public comment on the matter. The Mississippi Gaming Commission also declined to comment.

The March 23, 2023, game in question saw Rozier log fewer than 10 minutes before leaving the court. He did not appear in any subsequent games that season.

The sportsbook’s handling of the wagers and early communication with regulators shows how brick and mortar sportsbooks can play a role in identifying potentially improper activity.
