INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana sports betting market continues to see steady growth, boasting yet another record-breaking month in betting handle.

This is the fifth consecutive month where the record has been broken, showing that sports betting fans in the Hoosier State have fully embraced the market.

Indiana sports betting was aided by NBA betting the influx of those betting on the NFL playoffs, and Super Bowl betting.

Continued Growth

Indiana has not slowed down in recent months, seeing a strong increase in betting activity month over month, accumulating in a record-breaking January.

According to the official report released by the Indiana Gaming Commission, $347,325,977 was wagered on sports in total.

Not only is this a big increase from month over month, but this is also more than double the $171 million wagered in January 2020.

In terms of sports betting revenue, sportsbooks collected $29.3 million, with the state seeing $2.8 million in taxes.

The majority of wagers came from sports betting fans wagering on basketball, both college basketball betting and professional basketball which saw $133,169,727 in wagers.

The second most wagers came from parlays, which took in $86,135,549. And rounding up the top three in January is football wagers, which saw $77,631,196 in legal sports betting activity.

The bulk of all wagers came from online and mobile sports betting. A total of 85% of wagers in January were done at online sportsbooks. DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM were the most popular sportsbooks to start the year.

DraftKings was responsible for $122.6 million in wagers, FanDuel saw $89.2 million, and BetMGM saw $52.4 million respectively.

Since Super Bowl 55 took place in February, and the continued NBA season is expected to see even more wagers, Indiana may manage to break the single month betting handle record yet again.

The Hoosier State continues to see the growing success of its legal sports betting market.
