DES MOINES, Iowa – Sports betting in Iowa has continued to see major success in 2021 with February having a strong sports betting month.

While overall sports betting handle is lower month over month, this is due to February having three fewer days than January, with February, still averaging more wagers per day.

With the large influx of wagers for Super Bowl betting, it is understandable that Iowa would see such a strong response at sportsbooks.

Iowa Continues To Thrive

The Iowa sports betting numbers show that players in the Hawkeye State were active all month.

The report released by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission show a slight dip in activity from January, but this was only caused by the shortened month.

Still, February saw $143,615,169.91 wagered on sports in February, compared to the $149.5 million collected in January.

Comparing daily betting numbers, however, show that $5.1 million was wagered per day in February compared to just $4.8 million in January. This shows a growing trend in sports betting despite the lower overall monthly numbers.

In terms of sports betting revenue, the Hawkeye State saw $7,708,148.13 with $520,444.13 collected in state taxes.

Sports betting fans wagered primarily at online sportsbooks, with 87.2% of all wagers coming through mobile betting. $125,218,447.46 came from mobile betting apps compared to $18,396,722.45 from retail sportsbooks.

Mobile betting continues to be the primary wagering source for many legal sports betting markets.

With Iowa’s continued success, it is expected that the Hawkeye State will see similar gains in March as well. March Madness betting is one of the biggest events in sports betting every year. The Iowa Hawkeyes are also one of the best teams in the country going into the tournament which could lead to some heavy betting activity.

This will surely see the daily wagering numbers increase even more, which could make March break the single-month betting handle record in Iowa.

Iowa sports betting is showing no signs of slowing down.
