The Athletic partners with BetMGM

  • BetMGM and The Athletic will come together in a new deal that will see them create “The Athletic Betting Hub” an all-inclusive news and sports betting information platform.
  • This partnership is expected to bring the two companies more action in the form of readers and sports fan engagement, giving both sides the ability to profit.

SAN FRANCISCO – BetMGM will expand their presence on an even grander scale globally through the partnership deal they’ve made with The Athletic, a digital sports content platform, where BetMGM will serve as the company’s only sportsbook.

The two businesses will combine forces to launch “The Athletic Betting Hub” which will be designed to include both in-depth sporting event analysis and betting information with the BetMGM product’s live betting lines posted for the matchups discussed.

“BetMGM has pioneered the online gaming industry and as we sought to establish The Athletic as a home for great betting content, we knew there would be no better partner,” said Evan Parker, The Athletic’s General Manager of Content Operations. “As we collaborate on this new venture, we share a joint vision for how to seamlessly blend media, analysis, and betting into unique, premium experiences for The Athletic subscribers.”

Why This Partnership Came Together

BetMGM acts as both a retail and mobile sports betting platform with their mobile product being available in ten states across the U.S.

The Athletic has over one million subscribers for their online news outlet which covers games from almost 300 professional and collegiate sports organizations in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Their staff consists of over 400 writers that crank out thousands of articles on these teams and their events along with over 100 podcasts for subscribers to tune into for more content.

“The Athletic has an incredibly engaged and loyal readership and we look forward to introducing their fans to the BetMGM sports betting brand. They also have an outstanding product and, through integrations and collaboration, this partnership complements The Athletic’s premium offering,” said Matt Prevost, BetMGM’s Chief Revenue Officer.

The Athletic Betting Hub

The Athletic Betting Hub will be the main focus of this partnership and an extension of The Athletic as a vertical for content that will be centered around sports betting. All stories, podcasts, and any other published information will be paired with the BetMGM gambling angle.

There will be live in-game wagering odds posted as well as promotions for subscribers who use BetMGM as their official sportsbook.

Aside from this collaboration, the two companies will also cross all of their offerings from audio-based to video reports to create a rich content of what each company does best into one robust source for sports news and betting information.

To take it a step further, the deal mentions coming together via social media outlets to give their members a very exclusive and involved gambling experience, allowing them to have the most engaging time when betting on sports.

This pairing is expected to be the new Penn National/Barstool Sports combo in the world of legal sports betting, with the same goals in mind and the same successes.
