GREEN BAY, Wis. – The first legal sports betting operation in Wisconsin will officially open to the public on Tuesday at Oneida Casino.

The Oneida Business Committee and Oneida Casino Senior Management will hold a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, becoming the first sportsbook to open among the 11 Wisconsin tribes with gaming compacts.

The first legal sports bets in Wisconsin will be placed by the “Oneida Bingo Queens” Sandra Brehmer and Alma Webster, who are credited with running the most profitable bingo games in Wisconsin.

The Oneida Tribe signed an amendment to the gaming compact in July – the launch was originally scheduled for September but was delayed due to the “slow delivery of systems,” according to a statement released by the tribe.

At launch, sports betting will be launched at the main casino only; however, it will later expand to other properties in the Oneida Nation. The launch comes just in time for a potential Green Bay Packers Super Bowl run, which would inevitably lead to high revenue figures for the tribe.

Green Bay currently sits in first place in the NFC North and holds the league’s second-best record at 9-3.

“Sports Betting is nothing new here in Wisconsin, but legal betting is new. We hope to provide an environment for our clientele that is clean, up to date with the best technology possible. We have partnered with International Gaming Technology to lead us forward in the industry and keep us number one,” said Louise Cornelius, Gaming General Manager of the Oneida Casino.

While Oneida will be the first authorized tribe to launch legal sports betting in Wisconsin,  the remaining 10 authorized tribes will likely launch in the near future.
