• Genius Sports outbid Perform Group to secure the partnership with Football DataCo.
  • Financial terms of the deal were not released to the public.
  • It is estimated that 47% of all online sports betting revenue derives from soccer wagers.

NEW YORK – Genius Sports Group has secured its second sports betting data deal in the last six days.

On Thursday of last week, the company announced their plans to partner with Football DataCo. This agreement will allow Genius Sports to collect, license, and distribute live data from three major European soccer leagues.

Through their sports betting division BetGenius, the company has become the official supplier of live data for Football DataCo. With the rights for the English Premier League, English Football League, and Scottish Professional Football League under their umbrella, the agreement is being touted as the largest data deal to date for Genius Sports.

Expected to be ready by the end of the year, BetGenius will collect the data at the stadiums and distribute the information to hundreds of regulated sportsbooks around the world.

“This deal gives Genius Sports exclusive access to the most valuable sports-betting content in the world and reinforces our commitment to delivering the most competitive products and services for our customers,” said Mark Locke, CEO of Genius Sports Group.

Genius was selected as the official partner over the former data distributor, Perform Group, after a bidding process took place this year. Perform Group has had the live betting data responsibility since 2013.

In a study by the U.K. Gambling Commission, revenue on soccer wagers account for just under 50% of all action for online sportsbooks. In a sport like soccer where live betting is prevalent, the need for fast, official, and reliable data is crucial for sportsbooks everywhere.

According to Jack Davidson, the CCO of Genius Sports, “Over the past decade, we have invested in the development and optimization of technology at every stage of the sports data value chain, from capturing the data in-stadia to delivering it to our partners within milliseconds.”

Just last week, Genius Sports announced a similar data deal with NASCAR and has established deals with many other leagues, such as the PGA Tour, the NBA, and the NCAA as well.

“This reinforces our position as the global leader in sports data capture and distribution technology,” Locke explained.
